Quick update

I need to brief you guys more thoroughly, but basically I've decided to do a big push to get the army to playing condition by 6th ed.

Ordering some supplies and reigning down on mental conversions and instead concentrating on Vehicles after this batch.

Nearly there with Breaking Rust!

Pleased to share some pics and findings with you today.

1. I still love painting miniatures.
2. I actually achieved a red that fits the army palette beautifully
3. I have great friends without whom I might have drifted away from the hobby for quite some time
4. More to come: I ordered white spray primer, some new GW paints and the Empire "wagon altar thing" that comes with two gorgeous conversion starting points. I'm nearly ready for paint with three marines and four cultists.

A note to self that in the future I want to be bolder with the direction Ive been going: my conversions be even more technically precise and my painting to be much less so and much more organic.

Pens

A quick update from my desk - my favorite pens and a new calliper one, I found from the wonderful Best Made store.

This pen is made in Germany, is quite useful for cutting platicard strips to right length and oozes 40k oddity.

Testing out the blogger app on iPhone

Hopefully, this could turn out to be a super easy way to have frequent updates of modeling and painting steps. I need to figure out away to do that. Taking out the camera, downloading the content to my laptop, photoshop, uploading to blogger... Simply won't cut it. That takes about the time I have for modeling in the entire week anyway.

I've brushed off the rust and started painting a very interesting challenge, moonlight pale red in an army that has no red, not even purity seals or other detail like that.

I hope to share steps of how I build the red.

I broke out the paints - HUZZAH! It's been close to six months due to moving to a new continent and such exciting times in professional and personal life. I am now working on the Mechanicus Fabricator Captain to brake out the rust... literally in places :)

It'll be quite interesting. Trying to achieve a very cool and "moonlighty" red! to match the rest of the army that doesn't have red anywhere apart from a few blood effects, is a nice little adventure.

Excpect pics sometime this year :) No, but having everything set-up so I can just paint for a minute when I have a minute is the key to making this work. I'm also back to hunting parts for my desk, looking for large glass domes at the moment.

Oh, and if anyone has some Empire Gold Wizard helmets lying about, lets do business - I have two, but need 5 for a possible Death Cultist head solution?

The lamps "arrived".

...one of them even without scratches. Well, that is enough and with the worst ever amazon experience mostly behind me, I can concentrate on painting this coming weekend :)

It's a lamp from a very traditional English company called Anglepoise. The Type 75 was designed by my favorite tutor from the RCA, Kenneth Grange. The Grand Old Man of English Industrial Design. I was very specific about getting this particular lamp for my desk project. It's very english and subtly industrial, with great "heritage". I actually ordered two, black & white.

"A Series of unfortunate modeling setbacks and other updates"

That's what my log at a friendly forum is called these days. 2012 has begun with a wonderful time at work and home, but success and failure working against my modeling and hobby time. 60 Hour workweeks, active family life and a few competing hobbies, coupled with odd little setbacks finish off what nuggets of time I have left in the weeks.

As an example, two lamps I ordered almost two months ago, still haven't arrived - despite the store having dispatched them twice they claim.

Anyway, slowly, and daylight permitting, I've worked on. I've added detail and things to my desk and worked on my Coteaz count as Inquisitor - the hourglass guys. So much so, that a few fixes and newly named Lord Inquisitor Nestor is now ready for primer. It's quite likely he will inherit Borsus and Valencia, the two just fit him right and enable me to move swiftly towards a gaming legal army of XX Legion and it's operatives. The upcoming Warhammer 40000 6th Edition is becoming a nice goal - reinforced by the guilt I feel for having probably only played five or so games of with edition.

Seeing some great models from friends with more balanced lives have been another steady motivator. It's good to be around folks like that, even if only in the inter realm.

In the context of standard GW models, the imagery of the new +I+ may be somewhat marinesque, but consider the massive Legion marines of mine, more than head taller and twice as wide and this guy fits very well in to my project as an able male in powered armor. I intend to have a strong contrasting paint scheme of noble, intimidating detail and blunt, worn out reality. As with the Legion theme, lit by eerie moonlight more than Emperor's grace.

I'm thankful of the few of you who still read this blog and I will do my best to make it more worthwhile armed with enough light and motivated with the dawning 6th.
