+ Inquisitor Silas and the new recruits +

Mirror Master - Where is the mirror? Old, Wise beyond law, Erudite Extraordinaire, but how to remember thy minutia?

Tobias the Curze - Caretaker, Make sure master see no harm, solid slug for everyday, Enuncia for ordnance!

Chaide - Pelicanne, Man Bird, Haunted Hunter, The Weather!

At long last, The new additions are here. Well new and old. I had tremendous fun painting them. Taking fifteen minutes here and there. I still have some finishing work to do after varnish, but 99% they are done.

I've kept going back to the original +I+ rulebook for guidance. I've worked hard to maintain that feel and for these characters to be something if rendered by Blanche, Kopinski,  or Dainton that they would totally fit in. For each new character I had unique considerations, but ended up also wanting a somewhat common look for the three of them. Like I had for the first three.

It is now time to start planning how to play with these guys, where to find a new gang of crazy hobbyists to create a world and storyline worthy of the energy.

Next comes.

The Mirror - mirror mirror, dead or alive...

The Devout - Burn the Ministeric!

and of course, The Alterkin

Cant wait to show you more...

  1. Oh wow! This stuff is amaaaaazing!

Can't believe how awesome this whole =][= stuff is. Each model is like some character from City of Lost Children or a Terry Gilliam movie. I can't wait to delve into it myself

    1. Addendum:

Looking at the hi-def pics on a good screen the water-color-like technique really comes through - Chaide Pelicanne's ghost-like cloak is a sublimely beautiful piece and those wings... glorious.

      Wonderful art.

Just spent 15 minutes (at work on a BIG screen) staring at the Mirror Master - the OSL from the candles on his robes are fantastic!

      Cheers!

    2. Thanks mate! It's some what intimidating posting them in this detail - but at the same time, really showcases hod differently I'm doing things compared to, well, most of the CMON or other painters.

Even the Osl, I ended up skipping smoothness and logic for effect and nuance. I still struggle with the concept of doing something less accurately because it just looks better. But eachof these models has enough area for showing off technical skill - and actually the watercolorly application takes a lot of experience to get right. More the part of what exactly you have on your brush than how steady your hand is.

    3. Migsula, thanks for the detailed reply.
Many moons ago I used to paint fantasy pics using watercolors, and the trepidation of applying that first wet-in-wet wash (all important for setting the scene mood) was sometimes sickening... and then later doing smaller wet-in-wet like skin tones - o my poor nerves

Anyway, I have been comparing the painting style used on Inquisitor Haag - still a beautiful mini, btw - with your current style. I'm interested to see a hi-rez pic of Haag because the art-style black armour is suberb.

Also (asking a lot) is there a link to a high-res image of the Eisenhorn dio you won the Demon with - again, interested because you mentioned that you have competely changed your painting techniques and style since then.

      Thanks.

    4. o - forgot to add - what is that blue plastic part when unpainted) on Borsus' cannon (front bit, now yellow and black checked... which must have taken eons to do) ?

    5. I'll try and take HD pics of the UGLY sooner than later.

Eisenhorn and co are at my Granny's attic, other side of the ocean - so that won't happen just now ;)

That blue bit is from a Gundam kit leftover. circa 2009 I did a full army of Robots that counted as Tyranids. I called them T.W.A.R.:

    6. Thanks Migsula.

I loved your TWAR - and trying to place that bit was driving me crazy - marker lid, salt shaker... Gundam bits of course.

  9. Mirror Master - I've finally worked out the head. Corpse Cart with hair from the elf? The glow on the bionic eye is great.

Tobias the Curze - Caretaker. I'm afraid to say my favourite of the group for his simplicity and bleeding mouth. When I first saw the cultists I was worried they would too standard, yet what you, John and Molotov have done with very subtle changes really works. The head with bleeding mouth is genius and I like the reference.

Chaide - What the hell is he? Very weird. I love the cloak and wings, colour and shading are just perfect.

The money shot for me is seeing Silas facing off against Haag! I hope you find a worthy opponent or you bring the group along to fight Benadice next time you are in the UK. She would love to burn the heretic!

    1. Thanks Peter. The head is the female/banshee undead single frame plastic. That's where the hair is from too (and GS)

I'm very fond of Tobias too. I think every great group of individuals needs one or two very standard, very normal (well at 40k scale normality) guys in it, to make the others look as odd as they should, to reinforce the sense of scale and drama.

For me now, each of these is starting to mesh in to the group and transcend thinking about my favorites. I love the dynamic pairings I have in there. Valencia hunting with Chiade; Borsus for ever standing guard next to Silas - in particular when the mastery and carnage of the Alter Daemon takes a toll on his sense of present; Tobias, Silas' trusted Curze, tasked to make sure Mirror Master escapes the missions unscathed...

  11. I love these, Migs. The tones that you've managed to capture on these is incredible: they look like watercolour sketches rather than miniatures. Stunning. Chaide is pure 40k.

  14. Drastic minis, Migs! They are so unique and masterly implemented. I love the vibrant reds and yellows, contrasting subtle grays and pale skintones. Chaide's cold robe is especially eye-cathing in all its simplicity.

    2. There are couple of things slowly but surely getting finished, terrain to be specific, for the Punk Moth project. Those and couple of "comissions" too...

  15. Weather incarnated!

Indeed; Chaide's robes are all weather. Not weathering, but weather. Hauntingly beautiful too. As is also evident on the red cape of the Mirror Master.

I am really impressed and delighted by your turn in painting style Migs.

If this is an indication of what is to come from your hands from now on - then I can seriously not wait.

  16. Thank you gentlemen!

I think I'll do a bunch of closeups of the basing next and talk about why I care so much of basing and context.

I've also started on the Alter, one goal. Surprise! It needs to surprise you and me. I want shock, more than instant like ability.

  17. Any chance of some better army shots of the army you recently finished? Whatever happened to all those lovely henchmen units and true scale conversions?

  18. Sorry I haven't had chance to check these out properly until now mate. but glad i took time to sit down and fully appreciate them .. They are superb I adore them, i think you have really mastered that ephemeral look, It is similar to the JB style but not the same , it moves in a different direction and looks amazing , it reminds me of the direction Epic too the dawn of war games with the sequel. a more illustrative style to the paintwork, The top hat writing is really amazing , as individuals and as a group they are outstanding.
