So far 2014 has been the busiest of my life and it's been hard to find time for the hobby.
To balance the quiet, I give you a pictorial of an EPIC +I+munda event that took place in Nottingham very recently, followed by a special get together in Denmark. It is incredible what amazing experiences and friendships this hobby can create.
I'm sure this game will be reported and documented properly else where too. What it really is, is a celebration of the hobby that also involved some random rolling of the dice. But the focus and genius is really on the narrative and the spectacular models and terrain.
Very soon, it's time to talk about the future, and the third installment of my Inquisitor Trilogy. Powered by this inspiring experience.

Thank you so much for sharing these. They look like amazing events and I have to admit to a tinge of jealously regarding the exalted company you keep. So much talent in one place.
ReplyDeleteAs always, JB sets the standard that others hope to emulate. I'm in awe of the painting on his robot. It's simply incredible how much interest he gets in the surfaces of what is essentially an all black miniature. I'll be using that photo as inspiration and reference next time I'm painting black armour.

DeleteI think each individual sets a standard though, and you'd be surprised how much every one benefits and learns from each other. It's fantastic that despite the common nominators and motivations, there are so many distinct styles.
I can only imagine what an experience it must be to get all of this talent in one place.
DeleteI hope you don't think my praise for JB lessens my admiration of the other work on display here. I recognise so many miniatures in these photos from the various blogs I follow. You're all legends in my book and real inspiration for my own humble efforts.
Perfect illustration of what the hobby should be : the gathering of great people with the common denominator of building cool minis and enjoying each others company.

DeleteInteresting! What's the 40k hobby scene like in China? Can you access Dakka and other forums?
DeleteThe GW scene is starting. It started mostly as foreigner hobby but many locals are joining now. 2 or 3 stores in Shanghai. You can even see girls painting in these stores which is quite rare in my experience. You can access Dakka and the other forum via a VPN.

Terrain makes all the difference. I've returned energized and realize I need to share more photos of the terrain I have already built and painted and finish more!

I'm glad to hear that Stefan is back to painting and I'm hoping he will take up his blog again. His GD entry was always one of my favorites and I still remember some of the other stuff he posted on his yahoo page way back in the day (almost 10 years ago I think). I was very disappointed when he stopped updating his blog just as I had rediscovered him.

ReplyDeleteYou didn't happen to catch any mention of how JB achieved that dank, yet colorful wash effect on the board did you? I'd love to try and re-create it.
Big pots dilute green brown orange - spread quick with big brush using lots of water - dry - dry brush lightly ochre - spray and splash water on - leave out in sun and rain and mad stuff happens - no finesse - very very fast - some strange effects just appeared ........
